Deputy Director of Estates Infrastructure

Birkbeck, University of London’s property portfolio is made up of 14 buildings based across East and West London.  This role and the main campus is based in Bloomsbury in the centre of academic London, surrounded by other London universities and landmarks.

You will be responsible for the delivery of all infrastructure services, to ensure that the portfolio is maintained to the highest standard in order that the best possible experience is available to students and be responsible for a non-staff budget of around £2M-£5M in relation to infrastructure delivery.

You will lead, manage, motivate, and give direction to a team of around 20 estates staff to ensure that infrastructure services such as, mechanical and electrical engineering, fabric maintenance, life cycle and reactive projects, and contract management are delivered on time and to the correct standard.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Be qualified in a technical discipline such as mechanical or electrical engineering or building surveying.
  • Be able to demonstrate continued professional development, ideally leading to membership of a chartered body.
  • Have a successful track record in managing the delivery of technical infrastructure projects.
  • Have extensive knowledge in managing estate maintenance contracts.
  • Have experience as an effective team leader/manager and be able to give examples of proven career development of other team members.

Experience of working within the higher education sector or wider public sector would be advantageous but not essential.

Remuneration:

Grade 9 of the College’s London Pay Scale which is £56,349 rising to £62,925 per annum.

The salary quoted is on the College’s London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
